In Romans 5, Paul insists on the perplexing joy of suffering, which leads to endurance, character, and hope. Come along as Dr. Ronald Rittgers helps us to learn from Luther about the rich promises of Jesus in our suffering. He’ll then also introduce us to a 17th century Lutheran layman, who shows us the beautiful opportunity we have to encourage and strengthen others in their suffering.
Dr. Ronald Rittgers holds the Erich Markel Chair in German Reformation Studies at Valparaiso University, where he is also Professor of History and Theology. He earned his B.A. from Wheaton College, his M.T.S. from Regent College, and his Ph.D. from Harvard University, and he taught at Yale University for seven years before moving to Valparaiso. He has published widely on the theology and devotion of the German Reformation. Dr. Rittgers is married and has three sons. He enjoys hiking, cycling, soccer, spending time with his family, and watching Star Trek re-runs.
